Windows
For
instance, in the winter, make use of interlining as well as lining,
to not only help insulate the room, but add weight and luster to
the fabric. Combining this with blinds or shutters will add even
more interest to your room.
During the summer
they can be exchanged for sheers and lightweight curtains to allow
in plenty of light and fresh air.
Also becoming popular now are wooden venetians combined
with sheers.
Lighting
There is nothing worse than having a naked bulb
in the
middle of the ceiling on alone the walls. It is tacky and off putting.
Try using table & floor lamps to create more subtle lighting.
When used well these can create a warm, cosy glow.
Good lighting can also enhance the colour on your walls and highlight
special features of your room. It can even make the room feel larger
or smaller.
Furniture
If you cannot
afford to splash out on expensive new furniture, then try making
a few sofa covers that are easy to pull off and throw in the wash.
One set for summer and another set for winter are the perfect way
to transform your room in an instant.
Faux fur throws, when used well, can also create a desirable effect.
Another good
design tip to add interest or give your room a lift, is to make
cushions the same colour and shade to your walls, especially if
the wall is dramatic colour such as navy blue, red or orange.
